My First French Sheet Mask. How Does it Stack up?

Malou and Marius Sheet Mask Review To Dew List

I grabbed this sheet mask while in Paris on my bachelorette trip and was so stoked to try it! This is the first French sheet mask i’ve ever used, and I actually wasn’t a huge fan.

This is a detoxifying and purifying charcoal sheet mask, which is right up my ally! Not only is the packaging adorable but the label says it’s made of 96.3% natural ingredients. I also love that this mask straps you in — there’s a chin strap, and ear holes to really pull everything in, helping with that lifting feeling.

OK so what are my issues with this mask? First off, it comes in this kraft paper packaging which I loved, but when opening it, the mask is actually in another sleeve of plastic packaging! Already a bit bummed they used two sleeves, wish they could figure out a way to insulate the first layer of packaging. Don’t like the waste.

Where it really let me down was at application… I attempted to put this mask on my face twice. The first time I couldn’t leave it on for more than 3 minutes without my face burning. Not a good sign! I chalked it up to using it too soon after my shower, removed the mask, and waited until my face completely dried. For the second attempt it still stung a little, but faded pretty quickly. I would avoid letting it hit your lips, that’s where the biggest problem area was… While I had the mask on, it did give a cooling sensation, or possibly mild burning, couldn’t tell.

When I removed the mask, face was dry in a few minutes with no residue left behind.I did like that about this mask, I hate when serum turns into a sticky mess. The mask overall did what I think it intended to do: my skin was matte and looked brighter. High level break down below:

What I like About it

  • I like that the mask has the ear holes to make it fits tightly on your face.

  • The serum absorbed very quickly into the skin.

  • Did make my skin look refreshed.

  • Removed some of the oils from my face, helped mattify the skin.

What Don’t I like About it

  • Way too much packaging. I wish they could find a way to insulate their kraft outer packaging so they don’t have to use an inner.

  • The mask burns. Need to make sure your pores are totally closed.

  • I think they were going for a fresh scent, but it came off as chemically.

  • Didn’t do anything for blackheads.

With all of that said, i’ll prob never buy a sheet mask from this adorable brand, maybe their other masks are better? This one just didn’t do well with my skin. I can achieve similar results without the burn.

How to use

Clean and dry your face. Place the mask on your face and put your ears through the loops. Unfold the lower portion of the mask, that goes under the chin, and loop those onto the ears to keep everything snug. Wait for 20 minutes, remove the mask and massage in the serum.
