My Wedding Skincare Routine

I wanted to dive a little deeper into the skincare routine I did for my wedding day. Today marks my one year wedding anniversary and boy what a year… they say the first year of marriage is hard, but do it during a pandemic! I kid, I kid… it’s not actually much different to be honest, but COVID did postpone our honeymoon. OK, skincare… I first want to say how incredibly neurotic I was about it. I’m one of those people who, very easily, gets stress acne (and hyperpigmentation). Let’s re-wind to the day I decided to start dress shopping… I was so stressed about it that my entire, I mean entire, back broke out. So for the wedding, I was determined to do whatever it took to prevent stress acne from popping up again. NOT TODAY SATAN!

I started my skin prep about four months before my wedding day. I got monthly facials and launched into the paleo diet. The facials were great in that I tried different techniques and tools, learning which procedure gave my skin the best results. My favorite being the PureLift facial — it’s basically a face lift without going under the knife, with results that last about a week. Now, I will admit, I did think about getting a little itty bitty baby Botox, but ultimately opted out. I visited doctors offices, did my consultation and chickened out. If you’re going this route, I would shop around for sure and do it several weeks if not months in advance. Note: you do not see the results of Botox right away, your face is a bit swollen and then in about a month you’ll look fab.

I can’t stress how much diet impacted my skin. I switched to a paleo diet and drank lots of water and this not only make me look skinny af, but my skin was clear and had a healthy glow! While you don’t have to be as strict as I was, I do highly recommend changing your diet at least a month or two before the wedding. It was A LOT of prep, if only I could keep this up I wouldn’t need skincare…

My daily skincare routine really was over the top. I ice rolled, I used my NuSkin daily, added acids and peels to get as soft and smooth as possible, I LED masked several times a week, tried new acne and anti-aging serums, weekly face masks and explored so many different types of glowing products.

Take-aways per everything I did:

  • A little goes a long way. I didn’t need to do as much as I did.

  • Don’t over exfoliate your skin. You will not have perfectly smooth skin.

  • If you have your go-to acne products keep using them. I wouldn’t recommend adding new ones to the mix, could get negative results! I actually broke out from one of my acne products…

  • If you get back acne I highly recommend getting a back facial, yes that’s a thing. Also invest in Nip and Fabs glycolic fix night time pads, they saved me!

  • Highly recommend getting an ice roller or just put your jade roller in the freezer. Was incredible for de-puffing my face and eyes. Worked better than the eye serum I got with the metal roller ball attached to it.

  • LED spot treatment was shit, go with a full on LED mask instead, way better results.

  • I love my NuSKin! I got the travel sized one, and it’s basically a lower energy PureLift facial.

  • As soon as I noticed a zit coming in, Arcona has and always will be my go-to mask.

  • For all post zit hyperpigmentation, the Peace Out dark spot zit stickers were my jam.

  • Sleep well and take your vitamins! Your gut health is incredibly important for your skin.

Ultimately and honestly, I think I did too much too soon. Did I mention how paranoid I was?

To continue the crazy, my wedding was in London. Now all my hard work and dedication to achieve perfect skin, I was looking pretty amazing at this point, could easily be ruined by the disgusting dry airplane air or the change of climate. Cue the hydration and acne survival kit I got from Sephora! Throughout the flight I totally pulled a Tyra Banks and wiped everything down, I was that person wearing a sheet mask on the plane, I had face mists, I was constantly applying moisturizer — I probably looked insane.

After all of that, the day of the wedding, my skin behaved exactly how I thought it would: oily and temperamental. My biggest piece of skincare advice for your wedding day is self care. Get lots of rest, cut out food that’s inflammatory and do everything in your power to de-stress (easier said than done I know). Bad news, your skin is going to do what it’s going to do the day of your wedding. Do want you know works, don’t try to aggravate your skin by introducing a ton of new things and DO NOT get a facial a few days before your wedding.
