Review: Vitamin C Eye Creams, Which Works Wonders?

vitamin c eye cream To Dew List

I’ve been using eye cream since I was thirteen. My mom taught me very early on about crows feet, sagging eyes, and dark circles. Eye creams were the very first skincare product I had ever tried, I don’t even think I was wearing moisturizer, just eye cream. My mom isn’t a skincare addict, expert or even adventurer, she just had (and still does) anxiety around our genetics. At the time I honestly had no idea what she was talking about, I didn’t understand her fears, but now I do.

I think you first notice the aging process in your eyes, at least for me, and apparently my mom. I get the most questions from my friends about what new eye cream they need to protect that delicate skin. I also think we have a lot of expectations around our eye creams, we think they’re made of age-defying magic.

The best way to approach an eye cream is to really understand what you want to get out of it, it’s not a one size fits all situation. Do you want to pump more hydration into your eyes reducing the appearance of fine lines or do you want to lighten up the dark circles?

I’ve never really had issues with dark circles until I started planning a wedding, so here we are. For this side-by-side test, I wanted to focus on hydration and reducing the dark circles I have now developed. I picked up two popular Vitamin C based products: Ole Henriksens Banana Bright Eye Cream and the Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Eye Cream.

Overall my favorite out of the two is the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye cream. I really loved the way it hydrated my eyes making them look fresh every AM. I will however use every other day with a product that helps with firming.

Check out my break down, pros/cons and how they stack up below.

Ole Henriksen, Banana Bright Eye Cream
$38.00

This product is packed with a bunch of fun things! We got Vitamin C which helps with brightening and has anti-aging benefits. Collagen is infused into this product which supports elasticity in the skin. Banana is in there too, and it’s a multi-tasking ingredient. It’s packed with antioxidants which help with aging skin, it also fights against free radicals and helps with brightening. This product promises anti-aging benefits in addition to lightening up those dark circles.

Overall I love this product and would highly recommend it if you’re targeting the same issues, it truly delivers and you can see the results pretty quickly.

What I like About it

  • I really like the smell of it for some reason. It smells like a banana and cream desert.

  • It does a great job at hydrating your eyes which ultimately helps with fine lines. Goodbye crows feet!

  • Does brighten the eye area. Helped neutralize my darker skin under the eyes.

  • The product is light, absorbed quickly and my skin felt really moisturized.

  • Great for all skin types. My boyfriend (dry skin) and I (oily skin) use it.

  • Goes great under makeup.

  • Started to notice a difference in the appearance of my eyes within a month.

  • Reasonably priced.

What Don’t I like About it

  • Doesn’t do anything for gravity. This is a product that won’t help you out if you have sagging lids or baggy under-eyes.

How to use

Dab the product around the entire eye area. I love this product because I can use it on my lids and wont make my eyes puffy!

Peter Thomas Roth, Potent-C Vitamin C Power Eye Cream
$65.00

This eye cream is slightly different than the first one, in that it does address the dark circle and fine line situation, but it also helps with puffiness. Do we have a winner?! Hero ingredients include Vitamin C (obvi) to help with that brightening and firmness of the skin and Vitamin E is an antioxidant which helps with aging skin. Promised to be great for all skin types!

What I like About it

  • Did help with tightening the skin around my eyes helping with bags and puffiness.

  • Helped with brightening and reducing the appearance of my skin

  • Light in texture.

What I Don’t like About it

  • A little sticky, so I wouldn’t recommend using this product in the AM.

  • Doesn’t really absorb quickly into my skin. Leaves almost an oily residue behind.

  • Don’t like the smell of it.

  • I didn’t see really much difference with the fine lines and crows feet.

  • The price point.

How to use

Dab around the eye area, avoid the lids.
